MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A map recently released by Memphis Police Department depicts the most deadly areas in the city so far this year.

Color coded zip codes help to break down the number of homicides in each zip code, and which areas are the most deadly.

Breaking down the data contained within the homicide map shows that most homicides in Memphis this year happened in just a few neighborhoods. Some, for example, had six homicides within one block.

"Heard the shots. Went out and seen him laying on the stairs," Sylvia Perry recalled. "And police pulled him down the stairs and laid him on the...and I ain't been right since."

Perry lives in the middle of the 38127 zip code in Frayser.

That zip code has seen 16 homicides just this year, including one in her own backyard, which took place in July.

"I worry about my son so much," Perry said. "I got two kids, and I don't need nothing to go wrong."

The 154 homicides in Memphis in 2016 are spread throughout the entire city with the exception of east Memphis.

However, out of the 22 Memphis zip codes, seven of them are where almost 100 of the homicides have occurred.

That means that roughly two thirds of the homicides are happening in just one third of the city.

The two zip codes in red on the map have 16 homicides, the three in orange each have 14, and the two in yellow have seen 11 homicides between January 1 and September 3 of this year.

"I had a feeling that Frayser was near the top, but I didn't realize that," Perry said.

Sharon Harris said it is no surprise the areas with the most homicides are also some of the poorest areas.

"I would say that a lot of those homicides are drug-related, or possibly gang-related," Harris said.

She said more alarming is the fact there are homicides in all areas of Memphis.

"It can happen anywhere. So, those are the times that we're living in," Harris said.

Perry said she hopes the map will wake others up as well.

"Quit killing your own kind. Quit killing," Perry said. "Stop the killing! Stop the violence."

She said the message with the map is a strong one.

"There ain't going to be too many people left."
