MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

One man is behind bars after Memphis police officers investigated a fatal shooting early Tuesday morning.

Memphis police arrested Kadarrin Johnson and charged him with killing Dameshah Qualls.

According to Memphis Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies went to a home on Sun Ridge Cove in Raleigh to investigate a domestic violence call.

When they arrived at the home, a 22-year-old man with a gun was combative when they tried to ask about the reported domestic violence situation. The suspect then tried to take deputies guns and they began to struggle.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody.

Deputies then found a 23-year-old woman lying in the hallway with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to the affidavit, Johnson went into the living room armed with an assault rifle. He pointed the rifle at everyone in the living room and told them to leave the house.

Johnson became upset and started firing shots. That is when Qualls was shot and killed.

After shooting Qualls, witnesses said Johnson continued to fire shots inside the house.

Johnson admitted to investigators he fired shots inside the house and killed his child's mother, Damesha Qualls.
