Fight hunger: Stuff a MATA bus

The Mid-South Food Bank and the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) are partnering to fight hunger.  They will team up to collect canned goods and non-perishable items on Thursday.

Volunteers will take donations from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m, Thursday September 15 at the corner of Poplar and Highland (on the Highland side).  The folks from MATA will park one of their buses there.  The goal is to stuff the bus with food for folks in need.

September is Hunger Action Month.  This annual event is being held to promote awareness by donating food.

The Mid-South Food Bank serves 31 counties in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi.  Research shows that nearly 25% of the people who live in the Mid-South are food insecure.   Food bank officials say that's more than 418,000 people.
