Memphis Fire Department managed to get a house fire under control only to learn of more problems in the area.

The fire sparked near the corner of North Dunlap Street and Keel Avenue around 4 p.m.

Memphis Fire Department spokesman Lt. Wayne Cooke said flames filled around 50 percent of the house when firefighters arrived.

After they extinguished the fire, neighbors explained that the fire was not the only scary thing they'd seen at the home Tuesday afternoon.

They said they had seen and heard gunshots earlier in the day. They said the shooting happened right in front of the home that caught fire.

Memphis Police Department confirmed it responded to a shooting call in the area around 3 p.m. There, callers said someone was threatening to shoot people in the area. Officers never found a person with a weapon.

It is unclear if the shootings and the house fire are related, but officials are continuing to investigate both incidents.

Memphis Fire Department said it was determined the fire was set intentionally on the front porch of the home.

Anyone with information regarding this incident and any arson related crimes are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH (2274) or the State Arson Hotline at 1-800-762-3017. You could be eligible to receive a cash reward from Crime Stoppers of Memphis and Shelby County, Inc.
