Editorial by Tracey Rogers, Vice President and General Manager of WMC Action News 5:

It's a devastating week for our city as we mourn the deaths of 6 precious children, a grandmother, a mother of one of the children, and a family friend who helped care for the children.

In 2016, it's hard to imagine we would be talking about that many people, that many children, dying in a house fire, yet here we are.

This should make us take a hard look at how some of our neighbors have to live.

What can we do? We can help the surviving members of the family. There's now an account set up at Suntrust bank for Ernest Jett and the Jett family.

The funerals will be covered, but Ernest Jett has to start over.

Collectively what can we do to heal the hurt and is there anything we can do to make sure this doesn't happen again?

Your thoughts? Email me at abettermidsouth.com or post on my Facebook page, A Better Mid-South.

Finding ways to ensure the safety of Mid-South families without trapping them inside their homes will make this A Better Mid-South.
