MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

What could have turned out deadly ended as a win on Thursday for multiple agencies and the city of Memphis.

Around 9:20 a.m., the Memphis Police Department received a call about a man on the I-55 bridge. This forced the bridge to be shut down temporarily in both directions.

"Traffic was diverted down Riverside Drive over to the new bridge, the I-40 bridge. Traffic may have been down 30-40 minutes, about an hour," said Memphis Police Department spokesperson Louis Brownlee.

At around 10:30 a.m., negotiators finally got that man, described by the Memphis Dire Department as in his 20s, down safely. This was before he did harm to himself or anyone else. Brownlee says it took a team effort to make it happen.

"This is a great effort from all parties involved." says Brownlee. "Uniform patrol officers to Harbor patrol to the Aviation unit, our C. I. T. unit. Today, Memphis police officers, Memphis firefighters we got to save a life today."

That man is currently in police custody. It's unclear if he will face any charges.
