COAHOMA CO., MS (WMC) -

A man found murdered in North Mississippi was wanted for murder by police in Nebraska. Police said the man committed the murder just days before his death.

Days before he was found dead on a road, the Jonestown man was seen on surveillance video killing a clerk more than 11 hours away.

The man’s family helped detectives close the case.

Surveillance pictures from a Kwik Shop in Lincoln, Nebraska, show Rodzela Jones, 20, point a gun at the clerk on July 7. It appeared that Jones had a white cloth wrapped around his head as he entered the store, but surveillance video clearly shows Jones later walking without the cloth.

Moments later, police said Jones shot and killed the store clerk, Robert Hanna.

Lincoln police sent the images of Jones to police departments around the country, catching the attention of the Coahoma County Sheriff. The sheriff told police he believes Lincoln’s suspect is the victim of a homicide in their county.

Jones’s body was found on Coldwater Road in Jonestown on July 19.

Jonestown is a small town in Coahoma County with just around 1,200 people in it. Police said Jones is from Jonestown and his family still resides there.

Family members told deputies they last saw Jones on July 14, so it’s not clear how long his body was there before he was found.

Through phone records and family members, Lincoln police were able to confirm that Jones was 11 hours away from his home on the day of the Lincoln, Nebraska, homicide.

Jones’s death is still under investigation, but Lincoln police said they are confident enough that he is their suspect to close their murder case.
