MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Editorial by Tracey Rogers, Vice President and General Manager of WMC Action News 5:
Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland faced the truth head on when our city marked a sobering milestone--161 homicides.
This number is staggering because that's the number of homicides we had during all of last year.
Mayor Strickland made a post on his Facebook page to make sure we know each number represents, quote, "a son who won't come home, a mother who won't be there for her children or a young person who won't be able to reach his or her potential in our city." End quote.
While I am sad this is a number we even have to talk about, I'm glad Mayor Strickland is facing the brutal facts.
As Mayor Strickland said in his post, even one homicide is too many.
Solving the root problems that lead to our homicide rate will make this A Better Mid-South.
