MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The Cooper-Young Festival brought thousands to Memphis.

After a threat of showers worried festival organizers, the rain moved out and the sun came in.

The crowd proved they were prepared, with many coming out with umbrellas and rain gear to roam the streets for food, music, and art.

“The rain doesn't stop us,” Lizbeth Morales said. “The rain doesn't stop Memphis people.”

For many, dark clouds wouldn’t keep them away.

“This was my first time and it's actually very nice,” Morales said. “It's a lot of people. The talent everyone has in Memphis is really pretty to see.”

Leandrea Urrutia of Glazed and Confused said it would take more than grey clouds to stop them.

“Cooper-Young is a tradition, so people are dedicated, and lucky for us it's a good turnout,” Urrutia said. “A lot to do, a lot to see.”

Safety at the festival was a top priority with the Memphis Tigers game happening at the same time.

Memphis Police had 175 officers—some in uniform and some undercover—and two helicopters above.

The Memphis tradition rolled through, rain or shine.

“Forget the clouds, just keep it focused on the food especially,” Urrutia said. “The talent everyone has in Memphis is really pretty to see.”
