MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A state-of-the-art facility opened in Memphis as part of an effort to give children something fun to do, so they won't be tempted to get into trouble.

A hero empowerment center made a loud entrance into the Hickory Ridge Mall on Monday.

Heal the Hood foundation created the center and helped get it open. It contains everything from a state of the art recording studio to a video editing site where children can make their own music videos.

"We also have a digital technology for comic book and graphic design," Heal the Hood's Ladell Beamon said.

Organizers said the new center is a place where children can learn to be a hero not a villain. They hope the center is a place where children can turn away from guns and drugs.

"I love it. I absolutely love it," Erica Jackson said.

The center is entirely funded by donations. Hard Rock Café, Guitar Center, and even Walmart donated equipment and money.

Now organizers say it's time to bring some heroes back to Memphis.

"Gotham has batman. Metropolis has superman. Why not develop our own hero here in the city of Memphis?" Beamon said.

The Hickory Ridge Mall location is just one of seven locations Heal the Hood plans to open in Memphis. The other locations have not yet been released to the public.

The center will be open whenever the mall is open. Click here for more details on the center.
