Editorial by Tracey Rogers, Vice President and General Manager of WMC Action News 5:

I hope you've had the chance to visit Shelby Farms Park since the unveiling of the Heart of the Park renovation earlier this month.

Here are just some of the additions: The FedEx Event Center has a ballroom that can seat 550 people and overlooks Patriot Lake; the lake was expanded from 52 to 80 acres; an all new walking-running path was created around the lake alongside a separate path for cycling; kids can now enjoy a Spray Ground splash pad; there is a natural amphitheater with a new outdoor stage, a new restaurant: Kitchen Bistro and Kitchenette, SMART changing stations, more restrooms, benches and swings, picnic pavilions, as well as new boat and bike rental pavilions to go along with more than 55 acres of new meadows and 3,000 new trees.

The $70 million improvements came from corporate and private donations.

If you haven't made the trip to Shelby Farms yet, do yourself a favor and set aside some time to go see it.

It will be well worth your time.

If you have visited already, email me your thoughts at abettermidsouth@wmctv.com or post on my Facebook page, A Better Mid-South.

Shelby Farms Park makes this A Better Mid-South.
