MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A former student of Christian Brothers High School is suing the school for $1 million after he was denied from bringing a same-sex date to a school dance last year.
Lance Sanderson, who now attends DePaul University, filed the lawsuit Tuesday on several grounds including breach of contract and emotional distress.
According to a letter from Sanderson to the CBHS administration in 2015, Sanderson spoke with a teacher at 7:30 a.m. when an administrator pulled him out of the room and told him to go home for the week.
"They said this was like a hit for the Brothers," Sanderson said. "They were unhappy about the bad press. Said they had 890 other students to worry about, and they couldn't deal with this right now. They told me to go home."
Sanderson added he expected an entirely different start to the day. He said he planned for a normal day at school--maybe a brief talk with school administrators.
WMC Action News 5 could not reach the school for comment Tuesday night.
