A female off-duty police officer was threatened by a man police say is a former police officer.

The incident happened in Cordova around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said the woman who was threatened is an undercover officer. Neighbors said the fact that two officers are actually involved in the entire thing speaks volumes.

"We have to get something done around here because they're supposed to be making us safer, but if they're not safe, how can we be safe," Kelcie Brown said.

Police received a disturbance call to a Cordova apartment.

The victim told police she had a verbal argument with her ex-boyfriend. Police said the man ran away from the scene, but possibly returned with a weapon and threatened the woman.

"To know that a police officer can still be in an altercation, like that is pretty alarming," Brown said.

Officers said the suspect was found in the home and taken into custody. His name has not been released, because he has not yet been charged with a crime.

Brown believes that could be because of his law enforcement past. She said she thinks if he was anyone else it would be different.

"He would've been under the jail by now. I mean, it's really crazy that he's not being charged with anything," Brown said.

Neighbor Dan Price disagrees. He said being a former officer doesn't automatically mean special privileges.

"Not necessarily. Didn't nobody get hurt," Price said.

Brown said regardless of the occupation, everyone needs to be careful. It doesn't matter if you have a badge or a name tag.

"Be mindful of the people that you bring around," Brown said.
