MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Every step of the way, Dekeishia Tunstall has been at the side of her son Shon Coleman. Coleman is a current NFL player who fought his battle with cancer, and is helping someone else through their own fight.

"Once the lumps came back after testing, that's when we were sent to St.Jude," Tunstall said.

Tunstall said Coleman was diagnosed with cancer just one month after signing a letter of commitment to Auburn.

At the age of 18, Coleman was diagnosed with Leukemia.

"I was devastated; no one wants to see their child suffer, in any way," Tunstall said.

He spent two years away from football and received treatment at St.Jude. He beat cancer.

"He had no doubt, and he told us that he did not doubt that he would beat it, and luckily he did," Tunstall said.

"Faith: that's been the biggest driving force, and my family," Coleman said in a press conference while he attended Auburn University.

Coleman was drafted by the Cleveland Browns, but around the time things started looking up for Coleman, things were becoming challenging for another local athlete.

High school basketball star Nicholas London went from the court to the treatment facility at St.Jude.

"If I can beat cancer, I can beat anybody," London said.

London was diagnosed with cancer.

"The story sounded so familiar: athlete, prime of his career," Tunstall said.

Tunstall immediately contacted Nick's parents, and Coleman and Nick have maintained a brother-like relationship ever since.

"To be able to know what our experiences were, that makes everything worth it on our side," Tunstall said.

The hope is London will follow in the footsteps of Coleman, by beating cancer and then going on to live out his dream of playing basketball professionally.
