National Guard called into Charlotte amid violent protests, Crime down on Beale Street, Darrius Stewart lawsuit update

Good morning everyone...

It's a busy morning here in the newsroom. Here are some of the stories we're following at this hour:

There have been a second night of protests in Charlotte. It comes after a deadly police involved shooting. Police say evidence shows the African-American suspect had a gun and refused to comply with officer's demands. The Charlotte Police officer is also African-American. The family of the suspect says he did not have a gun but just a book. There was more looting in the streets, the governor has now called in the national guard. We will update you throughout the morning on WMC Action News 5 all morning long from the Alert Center.

Our team has uncovered a dramatic drop in crime on Beale Street. Police say it do to the first year of the Beale Street Bucks program. We'll explain the numbers and how it works this morning.

One family claims a Memphis Police officer choked a 15-year-old girl during a traffic stop. Investigators say an officer was trying to detain her when she wouldn't comply. We'll explain both sides this morning.

This morning Blue Bell is making another recall across the South. Select flavors are being recalled after chocolate chip cookie dough from a third-party supplier was potentially contaminated with listeria. We'll explain details this morning.

New this morning, we have a lot of legal back and forth in the lawsuit of the family of Darrius Stewart vs. the City of Memphis. We'll explain how the former Memphis police director is involved.

FedEx is hiring 1,500 seasonal employees in Memphis. The Memphis-based company plans to hire more than 400,000 workers nationwide for the holiday season. We'll explain how it works on WMC Action News 5.
