MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People delegates from around the state gathered in Memphis for the 70th annual state convention.

For 107 years, NAACP has stood as a defender of civil rights and a proponent of social justice—Thursday, many of them had the protests in Charlotte on their mind.

Leaders of the organization said they advocate for non-violent protests and said changes cannot be made overnight.

“We want people to show the same passion for throwing rocks--show the same passion at the ballot box,” NAACP Tennessee President Gloria J. Sweet-Love said. “Go vote and we can make meaningful change.”

The NAACP convention runs through Saturday at First Broad Baptist Church.

The entire community is invited to come out to train, get motivated, and transform.
