Heather Aquino and her children enjoyed the Block Party for Peace last year, and this year they're enjoying it again.

"We came out here last year and they had a good time doing the rides, and this time I'm coming out for a job fair," Aquino said.

Aquino is hoping this year's block party can help her find a way to provide a better life for her family.

"I'm expecting to find a job because I have six kids," Aquino said. "I'm trying to get back on my feet and let the kids have a good time."

The theme of this year's event, the 11th of its kind, is social justice. In addition to the career fair, the event will host performances, cooking contests, games, and dances. Visitors will also be treated to a panel discussion hosted by WMC Action News 5's Kontji Anthony to provide attendees an opportunity to voice their concerns about community issues.

"Get people engaged and have those conversations that need to be had in regards to social justice and criminal justice reform and how people are feeling right now," Rep. Antonio Parkinson said.

Event organizers and state representative Antonio Parkinson hopes the event will once again encourage unity within the community.
