MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The Mid-South community came together Friday night to raise money for the 10 lives lost in last week's fire.

"One of the things that connects people most naturally is music," Tami Sawyer said. "Just knowing the magnitude of what they lost. You know, we want to make sure they're taken care of for as long as they can be."

Fifteen local artists have joined together for "Music is Healing" at Memphis Slim House.

The artists were moved by the tragedy that took 10 lives in the Severson Avenue fire on September 12. The concert not only benefits the families, but is also aimed at being a celebration of life.

"As an artist, I just wanted to be a part of it to extend my sympathy," Tonya Dyson said

"It feels really good in my soul. It's good for my aura," DJ Sik said.

Artists ranging from hip-hop to R&B, gospel to spoken word, all came together to benefit the community.

"It's good to see and it's good to be able to be one of the organizers and coordinators of this event and to know that there's people that you can call on to come together for such a horrific moment," organizer Tim Change said.
