Shelby County Health Department confirmed a sixth person has been diagnosed with Legionnaires' Disease.

SCHD announced Thursday that five people had contracted the disease from the La Quinta Inn on Millbranch Road. Monday, SCHD said a sixth person had the disease as well.

The hotel remains closed and anyone who stayed in the hotel recently is being asked to call the SCHD Investigation Hotline immediately. The number is 901-222-9299.

SCHD said many people who are exposed to the disease do not become sick, but symptoms can be similar to forms of pneumonia, including cough, shortness of breath, high fever, muscle aches, and headaches. Symptoms can last between 2-14 days after exposure.

Legionnaires' Disease almost never spreads from person to person. The disease is usually successfully treated by antibiotics.
