It's time to start bouncing basketballs, NBA style, for year number 16 in Memphis.
The Grizzlies holding their preseason media day at FedEx Forum, and all eyes on Big Spain, who continues his rehab following surgery on his left foot.
The injury that kept him sidelined for 28 games last season, is one that *could* have been a career-ender.
But Gasol said not only is he back...he's back better.
"Never had an ache," Gasol said. "Never had an issue, even felt the foot. Whereas last year, there would be days I felt the foot pretty much everywhere and I just dealt with it because that's what I'm used to. My expectations this season is to be better. I don't expect anything less, I expect to be a considerably better player than I was the past season, that's for sure."
For coach David Fizdale, this year will be all about speed of play. Fast paced basketball is what former Grizz Coach Dave Joerger tried to implement, but Fizdale says the players have done the hard work to make it happen.
"The fact that they did come back early and got in shape early," Fizdale said. "I don't have to waste a lot of time getting them in shape, will allow me the time to get the system in place. We have a lot of high IQ basketball players, so with that kind of IQ I think we'll be able to get our system in pretty quickly."
Grizzlies training camp opens Tuesday.
The first preseason game is next Monday against Orlando at FedEx Forum.
