Memphis police arrested a man accused of shoplifting under $500 worth of property on Monday.

Reginald Chism, 43, has been charged with 12 counts of theft of property after he shoplifted from several stores, including Family Dollar, Circle K, Mapco Express, and Murphy Express.

The 43-year-old stole laundry detergent, energy drinks, candy, and clothing, but his most common item of choice was beer. Chism stole cases of beer on five different occasions, stealing from the Mapco Express on Mount Moriah Road four times and about four days apart.

Police were able to identify Chism as the serial shoplifter after tracking down his license plate.

While in custody, Chism confessed that he was responsible for all of the thefts ranging from August 8 to September 26. He is now being held on a $100 bond at the Criminal Justice Center.
