MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The Memphis Fire Department and Girl Scouts Heart of the South held their second annual "HERo Day" Saturday.

For six hours, more than 150 Mid-South girls between the 6th and 12th grade were able to experience a day in the world of fire and emergency services. Participants were engulfed into the life of a firefighter by suiting up in protective gear and tackling a life-saving obstacle course, rappelling over the edge of a five-story building, and extinguishing a mock fire.

The girls also met with the highest ranking females in the Memphis Fire Department and learned about the requirements to become a firefighter or paramedic.

At the event, Girl Scouts could work towards earning their First Aid Badge.
