OLIVE BRANCH, MS (WMC) -

Two teens are in custody after another teen was found shot and killed.

It was a peaceful Sunday night in an Olive Branch neighborhood until shots rang out.

"When I get came out, I just seen the policemen and I went back in my house," neighbor Terri Rubin said.

Police were in the cove in Olive Branch just after 10:30 Sunday night.

Melik Turner, 18, was in the front yard with multiple gunshot wounds. He died later at a hospital.

Alexander Mitchell,17, the suspected shooter, was taken into custody. Javaree Mason,18, was later arrested in Memphis Tuesday night during a traffic stop in connection to the shooting.

An attorney for his family said he was not in school. Tessa Dunham went to Center Hill High with Alexander Mitchell, and did not suspect he would be a criminal.

"Alex was pretty nice; I would talk with him in the hallways," Dunham said.

Neighbors said the teens were friends and lived in an Olive Branch neighborhood. Investigators said the shooting stemmed from some type of argument among the teens, but it is not clear exactly why the shooting happened.

Dunham said the shooting was the talk among students at Center Hill High.

"It's pretty crazy,” she said. “I didn't think someone so close to me would do something
like that."

People who live in this Olive Branch neighborhood are also shocked by the violence.

"It's pretty sad, because I have an older son around about their age,” a neighbor said. “It's really sad."

Alexander Mitchell is being held on a $1 million bond in the DeSoto County jail. Javaree Mason is at 201 Poplar waiting to be sent back to Mississippi.
