MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis Zoo officials confirmed a bird escaped from its enclosure.

A woman in Memphis said she saw the bird outside her business and contacted the zoo.

"I saw what I thought was a crane on top of a car," Courtney McCollum said. "I started snapping pictures of it. Then I realized there was a tag on it so I thought it probably belonged to the Zoo."

Zoo officials said they have tried to catch the bird, an egret, but it takes off whenever it sees their net.

Memphis Zoo spokesperson Laura Doty said she believes the egret will likely return when it gets hungry.

Egrets are native to Tennessee.
