(WMC) -

The push to the playoffs continued with week 7 of gridiron action in the Mid-South. We had a fine slate of games this Friday. Here are some of the best:

Whitehaven 20, White Station 14

Spartans took a 7-6 lead into halftime. In the third, John Lyons found Ryan Tipton over the middle to bring their drive inside the 5 yard line. Trevor Forbes would capitalize to put the Spartans up 14-6.

The Tigers would answer. On fourth down, Leslie Moseby found Kylan Watkins, who took it to the house for a touchdown to make it close.

Whitehaven would put the game away late in the fourth when Watkins broke a tackle, found open field and took it to the endzone.

Cordova 25, Arlington 21

The Wolves welcomed the Arlington Tigers for a big matchup in Cordova and grabbed a 12-7 lead in the 3rd quarter when Jeremy Banks would get a run to put them inside the 30.

A few plays later, Devin Coleman found Jacoby Whillet, who took it to the house for an 18-7 Wolves lead.

The Tigers would strike back on the next drive with Tate Kolwyck finding Noah Johnson on the quick slant for a touchdown. Cordova would maintain their lead, however, in the win.

Briarcrest 23, Christian Brothers 20

It was a private school battle at Briarcrest. With no score early on, the Purple Wave were able to rush the backfield with Bill Norton getting a sack on the quarterback.

The Saints also played big defense. Connor Shamblen was able to juggle a pass and come down with it on the sideline for the interception. Briarcrest would take advantage with QB Jackson Walker hitting Bradley Ellis with a perfect pass for the touchdown.

South Panola 19, Olive Branch 0

Typically a high-profile matchup, this battle between two struggling teams was not pretty at times.

This was on display when South Panola QB Patrick Shegog went the wrong way on the handoff. He did his best to get back to the line of scrimmage, but it was a blown play nonetheless. Shegog would get redemption when he hit D’Jordan Strong on a deep post for the touchdown to make it 7-0.

That’s all they would need as they kept the Conquistadores off the board all game.

Hernando 28, Southaven 26

Chargers were punting in the first half when Hernando grabbed the return near midfield, only to have the ball jarred loose. Southaven recovered to gain possession.

However, the Tigers would stand their ground and keep Southaven from gaining any ground. The two teams were entrenched in a tight battle the rest of the way.

Horn Lake 41, DeSoto Central 10

Horn Lake held just a 14-10 lead at halftime, but would make the game out of hand soon after. Eagles’ Jordan McBride grabbed the opening kickoff, found a hole and made it to the 36 yard line. Eagles would go on the attack, with Raydarius Jones hitting Ja’Marcus Bradshaw with a pass to take them to the 42.

From there, Tyler Grimm took it up the middle into the clear, almost punching it in before being stopped at the 1. Grimm took it again for a touchdown to start the 2nd half onslaught.

Harding 48, Westwood 8

It didn’t take long for the Lions to take control. Marquavious Moore grabbed a handoff for 27 yards for the first score. Shortly after, Ty Kimberlin would find Calvin Austin for another quick score as Harding rolled.
