Crosby, TX (WMC/NBC) -

A school district in Texas has released video from inside a school bus as it crashed last week. The school bus was carrying 52 middle school and high school students when the driver was distracted and the bus slipped into a ditch and onto its side.

In the video, the driver point towards to street to her right and she said loudly, "anybody get off here?" Then chaos erupts and children start screaming as the bus careens into the ditch and flips on its side. In a statement the school superintendent says the veteran bus driver was filling in on a different route when she looked into the rear view mirror to ask students about the next stop.

The driver can be heard saying, "oh my God," as the children are piled on top of each other on the inside of the bus. "Hold on everybody" she says as she struggles to unbuckle her seat belt. When she does, she falls out of the seat onto the wall of the bus which is now on the ground. "You okay?" a student asks her.

Officials believe that caused the driver to not see a truck that was stopped until it was too late. Bus driver Brenda Armster apparently pulled the bus to the right to avoid a collision and ended up in the ditch. Some children were trapped on the bus, ad some had to be carried off on gurneys.

More than a dozen students were injured. None of the injuries were life threatening. The school superintendent says they regret the accident happened and they will use it as an opportunity to train and improve.
