Taylorsville, NC (CNN) -

A woman was run over while pumping gas at a station north of Charlotte, North Carolina. It was caught on camera. The man who ran her over is now facing charges.

In the video, you can see the pickup truck as it slams into the car, sending it across the parking lot and the driver to the pavement. We have slowed down the video to give you a clearer picture of what happened. Police asked us not to show the truck as it went right over the defenseless woman.

"I don't think he even realized what happened," Taylorsville Police Chief Dennis James said.

James said the driver, Bobby Simmons, was under the influence of pain pills when the crash happened.  He is charged with DWI, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

"It was a miracle. I didn't expect to find her," said Brenda Roope , the sister-in-law of the woman who was struck. She said she was not seriously injured and expects to make a full recovery, "the only thing she can remember is being on the ground and seeing those wheels coming at her.  Huge wheels."

Alexander County Magistrate Jonathan Watts saw the crash ,and with the help of two other men, kept Simmons from running off.

"(He) took a few steps like he was trying to get away. Just took his legs out from under him and we jumped on top of him," said Watts.

Watts and the others held Simmons until police arrived, but don't call then heroes.

"Not a hero. Don't need to be considered that. Just doing what I thought was the right thing to do."
