MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Construction to alleviate what some call a rush hour nightmare starts this week near the intersection of Walnut Grove Road and Farm Road, according to city traffic engineers.

Wooden posts with colored ribbons mark where engineers said they're widening the left turn lane and extending the acceleration lane heading south on Farm Road to go west on Walnut Grove Road.

The projected is projected to be complete in about four to six weeks. During that time engineers said there will be lane closures, but not during peak traffic hours.

"It's something that's been really needed for a long time," said driver Wiley Jefferson.

Some drivers questioned wondered whether more focus should be put on widening the roads overall instead of just looking at the turn lanes.

"They are not solving the problem," said driver Beisy Canaca. "All the traffic is going to be stopped on Farm Road, because there is no other way."

Shelby Farms officials said they hope the wider lanes will help traffic flow easier going in and out of the park.
