A Better Mid-South: Celebration of Life Cummings

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Editorial by Tracey Rogers, Vice President and General Manager of WMC Action News 5.

I met an amazing person last week while visiting Cummings Elementary School for the celebration of life ceremony for the Jett children.

The principal at Cummings is Key Coleman.

He had only been on the job for about 6 weeks when a house fire killed 10 people and 5 were his students.

Coleman is a man full of passion and love.  Passion for his students and love for his community.

I heard him say more than once, we are finding triumph in tragedy.

That's why I want to ask you one more time to please give if you can.

Shelby County Schools, School Seed and WMC Action News 5 are continuing to collect donations to buy a washer and dryer and supplies for the Family Support Center at Cummings Elementary.

You see not everyone has access to a washer and dryer and some children don't come to school when they have to wear dirty clothes.

Please go to my Facebook page, A Better Mid-South and click the link to donate on line.

Follow Principal Coleman's example of taking care of his students and his community.  Mr. Coleman you are making this A Better Mid-South.
