MPD: Used car salesman sells cars from one dealership to another

A car salesman is facing charges after police said he was working for two dealerships at once and misusing money intended to be for business.

William Franklin Casey is charged with theft of property $60,000 or more after police said he worked for Peck Daniels Auto sales in the 2600 block of Mt. Moriah as a used car salesman.

Police said they were informed by Peck Daniels Auto that Casey would buy and sell used cars for the dealership with money from the dealership. In addition, he was expected to make necessary repairs to the vehicles.

But, the victim later learned Casey was selling the vehicles from their dealership and collecting the profit. Police said Casey was selling these vehicles to Bakers Auto Sales in the 3900 block of Homewood. He allegedly sold the vehicles for a loss to Peck Daniels Auto Sales.

Casey was working for Bakers Auto Sales as a used car salesman at the same time he was working for Peck Daniels. Police said Casey would sell the vehicles at a higher amount to customers instead of selling them from Peck Daniels Autos.

This allowed him to avoid the dealership house fee for selling the vehicles.

Between the dates of April 2011- December 2012, Casey is accused of selling 555 vehicles from Peck Daniels to Bakers Auto at a loss and within that same day, he sold these vehicles to customers from Bakers Auto at a higher amount.

Police said Casey also purchased a 2004 John Deer tractor for $35,000 with the dealership money.

He later is accused of selling the tractor when he sold his farm in June 2013.

The total amount of loss to Peck Daniels for these vehicles being sold to Bakers Auto is $111,898.63.
