Burn ban this weekend for parts of north Mississippi - WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee

Burn ban this weekend for parts of north Mississippi

A few spots were lucky enough to see some brief heavy downpours Wednesday morning, but much drier air will move in behind a front this weekend.

That will drop humidity levels below 30 percent in most areas by Saturday. Combine that with some gusty wind behind the front and you have a recipe for fire danger. In fact, the fire danger will be the highest in north Mississippi which is why many counties are under a burn ban through Monday. That means you should refrain from burning anything outside the next several days.

The U.S. drought monitor below shows areas south of I-40 in southeast Arkansas and north Mississippi experiencing drought conditions .

Another reason the fire danger is higher is due to the moderate to severe drought conditions in spots. Areas from Oxford to Clarksdale are experiencing a severe drought at this time. Even Memphis and Shelby county are abnormally dry.

My yard was lucky enough to see some rain but our rain chance is low if not zero for most through the middle of next week.
