A Mid-South man is being applauded for being safe on the road.

Joe Brown has driven for YRC Freight Company for 39 years. He's logged more than 5 million miles, but he’s never been in an accident.

"It feels good. It feels good to be here," Brown said as YRC Freight honored him Wednesday. “It's a good place to work. After 40 years, we're still working."

Joe is in company by himself when it comes to safe driving.

"Out of 20,000 employees, Joe is our currently our only 5 million mile safe driver,” YRC President Darren Hawkins said. "It's all about safety; it's about getting our employees home safe, but also respecting the motoring public.”

In addition to the celebration, YRC donated 50 car seats in Joe's name to Tennessee Highway Patrol for safe drivers—one car seat for every 100,000 miles Joe has driven safely.

"When troopers pull people for not having kids in car seats, and due to some unforeseen circumstances, if they can't afford them or whatever, we try to furnish them with a car seat,” THP’s Cary Hopkins said.

Joe has a few tips on how to drive safely.

"Keep your mind on what you're doing, watch your surroundings, watch out for the others, and adjust your speed to the condition of the weather,” Brown said.

As for how many miles he can keep going, he doesn’t have an answer.

"I don't know. I got to ask the man upstairs; he'll tell me."
