MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A fire engulfed a house in Walker Homes late Wednesday night, leaving neighbors running door to door to make sure everyone was safe.

The fire happened in the 3000 block of Parker Road.

According to neighbors, nobody was hurt in the fire.

Neighbors said a squatter stays in the home, but was not there at the time of the fire.

The fire threatened to destroy another home, but because of neighbors’ quick thinking, that family escaped unharmed.

One neighbor told WMC Action News 5 what he did to help the family escape.

“I ran over to beat on the front door,” the neighbor said. “Didn’t nobody come out, so I hit the side of the house. I didn’t go to the side door because the heat was too hot, so I beat on the side of the house and the young man came out. I screamed to him to ‘move your family out of the house and start moving your cars.’”

Memphis Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
