SENATOBIA, MS (WMC) -

A Mid-South bus driver is now unemployed after school leaders said he ditched a bus full of students.

Parents were shocked to hear accusations that a bus driver left 40 students on a bus with the air conditioning turned off.

"That's kind of foul, you know?" Derrick Boyd said.

"When we put those kids on those buses, we leave them in their care; we're trusting them to take care of our kids," Wendy Crawford said.

Senatobia Municipal School District said the incident happened September 23.

The driver pulled over a bus filled with students ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade. He then cut off the air conditioner and abandoned the students.

Superintendent Jay Foster said transportation staff arrived within minutes to get the air back on and make sure all the students were safe.

"Our number one priority is student safety, and we felt like students were put in a bad situation and we needed to handle that immediately," Foster said. "I can tell you that that bus driver is no longer with this district."

Senatobia Police Department said no charges have been filed against the bus driver.
