Howard University is speaking the language of one of it's former staff members and Radio One founder and Chairperson, Catherine L. Hughes.

Yesterday, the University's president, Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick, announced a multi-million dollar gift to its School of Communications through the Catherine L. Hughes and Alfred C. Liggins III Foundation, and established the school to be named in honor of Cathy Hughes.

The official ceremony to announce the naming of the school will be held Sunday, October 23, 2016.

Dr. Frederick said, "The Howard community is thrilled that Mr. Liggins has chosen to honor his mother, Ms. Cathy Hughes, in this manner for her
pioneering work in the field of communications."

He went on to praise Ms. Hughes' accomplishments, in particular her creation of the "Quiet Storm" at WHUR-FM.
