MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

For the second year in a row, the Junior League of Memphis is partnering with Booksellers at Laurelwood to support the Read20 Book Patrol Initiative.

The initiative was brought on by Tennessee First Lady Haslam to encourage children to read 20 minutes each day.

Locally, Haslam partnered with the JLM and Memphis Police Department to promote literacy with public safety.

Through the month of October, Booksellers at Laurelwood will feature a special table to promote the program. Every book purchased and donated back to the program will be 20 percent off.

In the past year, JLM has collected more than 7,000 books for students in high-risk areas.

Memphis police officers distribute the books across the city.

Book donations can always be dropped off at the JLM Community Resource Center, 3475 Central Ave, or by contacting Katie Walsh at walshie2004@gmail.com or Mandy Tenent at mandytenent@gmail.com.
