MURFREESBORO, AR (WMC) -

Finding a 2.03-carat diamond took less than an hour to find for two gem hunters at Arkansas’ Crater of Diamonds State Park.

Dan Frederick and his daughter, Lauren, came to the diamond site on October 3 at 8 a.m., and less than an hour later, they were holding “The Lucky Diamond,” as park officials call it.

Officials said the Fredericks said they’ve never been to the park before, but the first time was a charm. The father/daughter team traveled from Renton, Washington on the hunt for gems.

Officials said the gem was found near the Star of Arkansas diamond marker on the north end of the park.

Dan Frederick told park officials he “spotted the diamond’s metallic shine on top of the ground about three feet away from where he was standing,” according to the press release.

“Dan Frederick has proven, once again, that it is possible to find large, beautiful diamonds while surface searching,” Park Interpreter Betty Coors said. “This is an example of a diamond that all park visitors dream of taking home.”

The Fredericks said they plan on keeping their diamond, however, they’re not saying what they’re planning on doing with it.
