(WMC) -

The push to the playoffs continues! Week 8 of Friday Football Fever brought us plenty of ups and downs from the Mid-South’s best. Here are some highlights:

East 28, Trezevant 20

Trezevant was back on the field after dealing with grade discrepancies.

The Bears would hit the ground running. Tywon Johnson broke free on a big gain for 53 yards before he was finally taken down at the 15 yard line. From there, Johnson took it through the air for Jcori Jolley and the touchdown.

The Mustangs would counter with their own ground attack. Timothy Taylor got the ball and turned on the jets, scampering 43 yards before being taken down. Taylor wrapped up the drive with a score a few plays later

Central 20, Brighton 13

Central and Brighton locked themselves in a battle in Midtown. In the 2nd quarter, Dontavion Davis spun to the outside and muscled his way in the endzone to put Central up 7-6 going to the half.

In the 3rd, the Warriors were at it again. Jaylen Pearson took a swing pass and stretched it for a 50 yard touchdown and a 13-6 Central lead.

Brighton would fight back later in the 3rd with Malik Johnson calling his own number for the touchdown, but the Warriors would come out on top.

Oxford 48, Lewisburg 13

The Patriots welcomed Oxford, but it was the Chargers who made themselves at home.

With Lewisburg driving near midfield, they go to the air, only to have Bryce Brock’s pass tipped and intercepted by Chester King. Oxford would go in business right away with Hiram Washington, Jr. on the sweep to the 32 yard line. On the next play, John Reece McClure took the screen pass from Dede Pegues to get to the 13.

From there, Oxford executed a perfect fakeout, with McClure taking it to the endzone for the 6-0 lead. On the next possession, McClure hits Pegues on a slant for a 53 yard score.

Tupelo 38, Southaven 7

The Golden Wave made their trip to Southaven and the Chargers took a lead early.

Up 7-3 and looking for more, Chargers’ Brandin Echoles grabbed a sweep and completely flipped field to the opposite sideline and rushed all the way to the 30 yard line. It had the makings of a scoring drive, but a bad snap went over Mardeiluis Vaughn’s head, and the ball went over on downs.

Tupelo took over, but Southaven gobbled up a sweep for a tackle for loss. On the next play, Tupelo’s screen gets blown up for another tackle for loss.

Undaunted, Tupelo QB Stephen McGlaun found Dante Freeman for a Tupelo touchdown to start the onslaught.

Whitehaven 57, Bartlett 0

Whitehaven dominated the game from the start. In the 3rd quarter with Bartlett trying to get anything going, Marquavius Weaver took a pitch, ran downfield and was stopped inside the 40. On the next play, Weaver took an option closer to the red zone. After 2 successes, they kept rolling with the same formula three more times. A big Tigers hit would shift possession.

From there, Kylan Watkins took a screen behind perfect blockers, got into a sprint and took off near midfield. Nobody would stop him on the way to a touchdown and Whitehaven stayed undefeated.
