MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis Fire Department is investigating a fire on Interstate 240 between Perkins Road and Mt. Moriah Road.

Tennessee Department of Transportation said it appears to be a brush/grass fire.

WMC Action News 5 Meteorologist Brittney Bryant said the Mid-South is extremely dry and fires spread rapidly under these conditions. The Mid-South has only had 0.02 inches of rain in October, which is nearly an inch below normal. The month of September was about 1.5 inches below normal.

North Mississippi is under a Red Flag Warning, which means fire weather is possible; however, Shelby County was not included in the warning.

The fire is causing delays. Westbound traffic is affected with the right lane blocked. Eastbound traffic is affected with rubbernecking delays, according to TDOT.

Please avoid the area if possible.
