ST. LOUIS, MO (WMC) -

Several St. Louis Cardinal prospects made the various league Top 20 lists that Baseball America compiles at the end of each year.  The lists are ranked 1 through 20, with weight placed on potential more than actual performance.

In the rookie Gulf Coast League, St. Louis had three of the top 20 prospects: shortstop Delvin Perez at #5, RHP Alvaro Seijas at #9, and OF Dylan Carlson at #16.  Perez is, coincidentally, the organization’s fifth overall prospect, according to MLBPipeline.com.  Carlson is their #21 overall system prospect.

In the Appalachian League, the Cardinals placed two prospects on the Top 20 list: #5 RHP Jordan Hicks, and #13 SS Allen Cordoba.  Cordoba is the organization’s #20 overall prospect.

In the New York/Penn League, Jordan Hicks was also included in the Top 20 list, coming in at #10.  Hicks was drafted in the supplemental round of the 2015 draft out of Cypress Creek High School in Houston, Texas.

The Cardinals had three prospects in the Midwest League Top 20 list: RHP Sandy Alcantara was #5, OF Magneuris Sierra was #12, and 2B Eli Alvarez was #19.  Alcantara is the Cardinals’ #9 overall prospect, and Sierra is #6 overall.  Alvarez was an international free agent who was signed in 2011 as a 16-year-old, but has lost playing time due to injuries.
