MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

If your commute ever takes you along Interstate 40, you know that construction projects can slow you down.

TDOT has another one that begins Wednesday. But, the length of time the project will entail has some concerned.

The $28 million project is aimed at constructing a new, wider interchange at I-40 and Canada Road, but that doesn't mean it's not coming without a few bumps, delays, and detours.

Beginning Wednesday, October 12, TDOT will close the I-40 eastbound ramp from Canada Road for the next three months. The dirt, cranes, backhoes, steel beams, and workers is a sign that progress is being made, but you will need plenty of patience.

Some people said the length of time for the closure is too much.

"That's not good," Wade Whitmire said. "Well, um I'm sure that's going to be an inconvenience for sure."

Several businesses in the area will be affected by the congestion and detours, but for some the wait is well worth it.

"Well, if they are going to make it more accessible because it's been pretty much jammed up right here for a long time," Wesley Sims said. "I can understand what they are doing, trying to widen it, the road. To be more accessible. I guess we will just have to deal with it."

Detour signs are posted. Motorists will need to take I-40 to Canada Road southbound to US 64 eastbound then to Hwy 385 northbound to I-40.  The drive should take approximately 10 minutes.
