Tennessee has one of the highest divorce rates in the country. But state legal experts say so-called "divorce kits" through the mail may do more harm than good. Many people are trying to get out of marriage by mail. But legal experts say people who come to court armed only with documents and no legal knowledge usually leave frustrated and still married. Lucinda Smith, Legal Aid Society said, "None of these forms complied with Tennessee law and procedure. So the people were frustrated when they went into the court. You had people being angry with the court and angry with the judge, because they couldn't complete divorce with the forms they'd purchased." Smith says companies that sell the Divorce Kits are hurting already bad situations. The divorce kits can cost nearly $200. Legal experts say they're a waste of your money.
