MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A grandmother was killed when someone shot her car as she drove down the road in Orange Mound.

The shooting happened as Telessa Cain, 51, drove down Douglass Avenue toward Haynes Street around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"To wake up to this call of her death is truly shocking," Cain's brother, Allen Richardson, said.

A man who was in the car with Cain when the shooting happened said someone drove up next to them, boxed them in and opened fire.

After the shooting, the man was able to drive the car to his nearby house and call police. However, it was too late for Cain. She died from her injuries.

A person who was standing near the intersection where the shooting happened was also hit with gunfire. That person was taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries.

Memphis Police Department is investigating what happened, but they don't yet know who shot Cain or why they did it.

Cain's brother said he forgives the person who killed his sister. He said he's praying for peace.

"To you who did this, may God bless your soul," Richardson said.
