Fireball sighting in the Mid-South Wednesday morning

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A fireball was spotted by several Mid-South residents this morning around sunrise. People from Collierville to Southaven reported seeing a bright meteor or fireball just before 7 AM central time.

The fireball was seen across the southeast from Nashville to New Orleans. According to Bill Cooke at NASA in Huntsville, the large fireball was not a part of the Orionids meteor shower, which is now through early November.  He estimated the object weighed around 5 pounds and was about 5 inches in diameter. Based on reports, Bill thinks it was moving nearly 89,000 mph.
