COLDWATER, MS (WMC) -

A tractor trailer crashed on Interstate 55 near the Highway 306 exit in Coldwater, Mississippi.

Witnesses said an 18-wheeler hit the bridge, flipped, and caught fire. Crews were forced to shut down multiple lanes of the interstate when responding to the area.

It's unclear if anyone was seriously injured in the crash. The front end of the truck is almost completely burned and the back end was bent and smashed. It's not clear what caused the truck to hit the bridge.

Viewers posted video and pictures of the scene to social media.

The right lane heading northbound is closed; the left lane is open, but delays are still occurring.

The bridge is now missing a large chunk. Mississippi Department of Transportation officials said the right lane will remain closed overnight. Officials will place a temporary fix on the bridge Thursday.

Monday, officials will again close lanes and work on a permanent fix that will take several days. During the permanent fix, both the right and left lanes heading northbound will be closed.
