MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Students at Humes Preparatory Academy will be treated to a brand new library when they return from Fall Break.

Employees of Lowe’s went to work to renovate the library, free of charge to the school.

“We didn't have a truly functioning library,” dean of scholars Tahanna Francis said.

“Our library wasn't used too much like, no one really used it at all,” 8th grader Benjamin Inman said.

Company representatives said after school, staff came to them, asking for help. They were ready to make a difference.

“We thought the little bit that we could do to help them out would make it enhance these kids lives, the teachers' and the principal's lives, and make it overall, a better place," store manager Ryan Wright said.

They will also donate about 1,500 books.

“I like to read,” 7th grader Madison Ingram said. “I'm happy they're giving us a brand-new book, so that's what I'm excited for.”

Volunteers from Lowe’s started working Monday and expect to unveil the finished project when students come back from Fall Break on Monday.

Francis said she cannot wait to see the students’ faces.

“I'm excited about what everybody's reaction is going to be, and I have some surprises for them too,” she said.
