MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Police had to resort to using a Taser after someone hit an unmarked police car Wednesday night.

Police said officers were trying to make a traffic stop when the driver stopped abruptly. The officer slammed the brakes and narrowly avoided a collision. Police said the suspect then tried a U-turn and rammed the officer's vehicle.

Police said the car was struck at 385 and Ridgeway Road. Police are calling it a hit-and-run, as the driver drove off after the collision.

Police chased the suspect to Knight Road and Aloha Avenue, where they were able to stop him. Police said the man refused officers' demands, so they used a Taser and took the suspect into custody.

Dedrick Dotson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, resisting official detention, and reckless driving.
