FedEx is delivering medicine to Haiti in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.

The powerful storm killed nearly 500 people and left millions more in need of life-saving assistance.

"In times of disaster, FedEx is always there to help," FedEx VP of Corporate Communications Neil Gibson said.

A FedEx plane landed in Haiti on Wednesday. It brought with it approximately 35,000 pounds of medicine and medical supplies from the organization Direct Relief to Haiti.

Direct Relief will then distribute the supplies throughout the country to help care for the people hit hardest by this devastating storm.

This shipment is the largest amount of emergency medical supplies sent to Haiti since Hurricane Matthew hit the island, which has been in a health crisis since the storm.

"With the shipping expertise that we have, we're able to bring those relief supplies in as quickly and efficiently as possible," Gibson said.

A second flight arrived in Haiti on Thursday, carrying additional supplies from Heart to Heart International and International Medical Corps.

FedEx's commitment to helping Haiti falls right in line with the company's FedEx Cares initiative. Through that initiative FedEx plans to invest $200 million in more than 200 global communities by 2020.

"We just think it's what we are supposed to do," Gibson said.

FedEx encourages those who want to contribute to relief efforts to donate directly to Direct Relief, Heart to Heart International, or International Medical Corps.
