The high school football season keeps rolling along, and the fireworks were out for week 9.

Here is some of the best action in the Mid-South this week:

MUS 21, Briarcrest 17

The top-ranked Owls played host to number 5 Briarcrest. On the opening drive, the Owls D swarmed early, with Dorian Hopkins chasing down the QB for a sack.

Later in the quarter, the Saints drive was halted when John Bolton jumped in front of his receiver for the interception. The tables would turn quickly when Chase Martin jumped a sideline route for a pick of his own for Briarcrest.

The Saints we go back on the move with Jackson Walker finding Parker Sherrill, who braces for a big hit to hold on for the first down. Later in that drive, the Saints would get on the board with D.J. Robinson punching it in for 6 points.

MUS would persevere and come back for the win.

Central 42, Southwind 12

At Crump Stadium, the Warriors took a 6-game winning streak into play.

Central jumped out to a 21-6 first half lead. In the first play of the 3rd quarter, the Warriors threw what appeared to be an incomplete pass, but the ball was ruled a lateral. Jaguars’ Jordan Davis would scoop it up and took it to the house for a touchdown to make it 21-12.

The Warriors would dtrike back quick. Cameron Cooper hit Rashad Haynes on a screen play for a big gain. A few plays later, Cooper found an open Ray Newson in the endzone for the score.

Things would get worse for Southwind: After a Jags fumble, Haynes increased the Central lead with a 6-yard touchdown.

CBHS 35, St. Benedict 0

St. Benedict hosted and looked to contend with the number 6 Purple Wave.

In the 2nd quarter, the Eagles lined up to attempt a 40 yard field goal, but the defense got a hand on it. Ryan Whitaker grabbed the ball and took it all the way back for a touchdown.

Later in the quarter with a 14-0 lead, Keegan Voss hit Gray Woodmansee on a toss, and he’d make it to the 2-yard line. From there, Dominick Garrett would get it in for the Purple Wave touchdown and they’d roll the rest of the way.
