NEW ORLEANS, LA (WMC) -

The Memphis Tigers remain hot on the season, beating Tulane 24-14 in New Orleans.

Unlike recent history, it was Memphis’ defense that held up while the offense sputtered at times.

Tulane battled from behind all game and didn’t score their second touchdown until 47 seconds were left in the game.

Tulane QB Glen Cuiellette especially struggled against the Tiger D, completing just 11 of his 30 passes for 144 yards with a touchdown and a pick.

Tulane RB Lazedrick Thompson gave the Tigers fits with 8.6 yards per carry, but ran the ball just eight times as the yardage leader for the Green Wave.

For the Tigers, Riley Ferguson continued his sturdy play, completing 21 of his 34 passes for 236 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

Doroland Dorceus gained 81 yards on just 7 carries, including a huge 61 yard gain. Darrell Henderson added 75 yards on just 9 carries, including a 45 yard scamper.

The teams combined for 13 punts on the night as defense was the story.

Memphis kicker Jake Elliott continued to show his worth as one of the nation’s best kickers, hitting from 37, 21, and 50 yards out.

Memphis improved to 5-1 on the season, winning their second straight conference win to improve to 2-0. Tulane fell to 3-3 on the season.

Memphis will stay on the road next week as they battle a ranked foe in Navy on October 22.
